The City of Adelaide

The clipper ship, "City of Adelaide" was built at the shipyards of W. Pile, Hay & Co., of Sunderland and launched on 7th May 1864. She was built for a syndicate of owners which included the shipping agents Devitt & Moore of London and Adelaide, and her first master Captain David Bruce.

She was built expressly for the South Australian trade, and on many occasions carried local cargo back to England.

Built of teak planking over iron framework, with pitch-pine work about her, and was originally ship rigged. Her hull was sheathed in copper.
