Black Hull
|
Born
in 1910 from plans drawn by C Nicholson. At 147 feet, she was
a big boat, one of the biggest of all traditional yachts. Built
at Gosport, near Portsmouth in southern England. She was first
ordered by the Spanish Royal Family. |

Black/White Hull
|
In
1978, she was a wreck when she was taken over at La Spezia by
her new owners, two Italian brothers who had made up their mind
to bring her back to life. Orion was the first classic yacht
to be restored. At a time when this was neither fashionable
nor even discussed. It happened simply because she had become
the property of a family who felt it their duty to maintain
her as one maintain a chateau, to ensure that this valueable
piece of our heritage was not devalued.
